Quentin Tarantino is an amazing American film director who also has written scripts that other well known directors have produced and his filmography is often noted as being very postmodern as he is known to reference various parts or generic elements like filming scenes in a way that resembles works by other famous directors or by putting a great many “pop” references in his film. In the Hollywood’s golden era, completely all films were shot on 35mm celluloid. Next, they were developed and edited and cut by hand so basically everything was done manually. Then, when the film was completed, prints were made and sent out to cinemas around the world, where it was projected. Present-day, various different formats are shot in films such as film or digital, or even stop motion or a consolidation of all formats together which is unbelievably incredible. As for Tarantino himself, he chooses to shoot on film and edit and portraying the story using modern equipment. His films are designated by thickly stylized, self-referential perceptions of genres and categories, turned on their heads to embody otherwise incompatible aspects. His unconventional use of genre as a crowning achievement in post-modernism is the highlight of his work, which is the synthesis of a new structure. Basically, postmodernism is the re-examination of modern theory about history, culture, and identity. Critics find his films to be conclusively conventional or in other words, unoriginal as it is assembled in a provocative approach from wholly pre-used material but that did not stop him to pursue his work into the next level. The old style of filmmaking by using 35mm celluloid is Quentin Tarantino’s reliable source and that’s why he is known to be a postmodern director but at the same time he utilizes a postmodern way of telling the story as his films shift between characters and they do not pursue a continuous story telling line.
