Through reading this excerpt it became clear through the language used to describe the Indians that the Europeans were saught out as superior which was made clear by language such as"Copper-colored barbarians"(pg.11) 1966: What does it reveal about cultural differences among Indians? In the beginning of this text it dissuces "how the land was sparsley peopled by Indians"(pg.13) meaning there was a clear separation throughout the land of different tribes of Indians , which could have created a cultural difference among them. How are the Indians and Indian tribes named? Throughout the passage the Indians were reffered to as just Indians. However, at one point the passage uses the word "heathens" to describe the Indians (pg.14). Does the language describing the Indians reflect a belief that one's own culture is superior to others? This text goes into detail about the start of the process of conforming and adapting to their new neighbors and leaders. New religions, names, and languages began to emerge, distinguishing the tribes from one another. How are the Indians and Indian tribes named? In the beginning of the text they separate it by time periods starting off with the sub text of "The First Discoveres of America", where they refer to the Indians as regular people but continues to discuss that they separated into different tribes whch hints that they are Indians.
