Although TV shows are watched for purely entertainment, techniques such as quotationalism and hyper-ironism are portrayed. Quotationalism is utilized in pop culture to make references from other works. Rather than humor being genuine or on a sense of world-weary clever-than-thou-ness, hyper-ironism involves humor that is dark and cold. The well-known American sitcom, Friends aired in the year 1994 lasted and lasted until 2004 but is still very popular in today’s pop culture. Even though, it has been more than a decade that ended, it is still very famous. Friends consist of six main characters name Ross, Rachel, Chandler, Monica, Phoebe, and Joey whom all live in one of New York’s borough, Manhattan. The motive for why Friends involves the show Days of Lives a lot throughout the show it is to emphasize how Days of Lives has been one of the most popular and longestest tv series because it first aired in the year 1965 and til this day it continues to air. Another reference and quote made in the show is in the epiosode “The One with a Chick and a Duck”. In the episode Chandler is asking for relationship advice to Phoebe but is then interrupted by a very happy and excited Joey carrying a shoebox. Chandler is the first one to open the box and is surprised to see a baby chick in it. Phoebe then asks if they know how to take care of a chicken and Chandler says no, so therefore Phoebe says the chick needs lots of of care and love. When Joey hears Phoebe and he proclaims he will give the chick lots of love so he immediately grabs the chick into his hands and covers it with his large hands against his chest but it in what looks like not a safe or careful way becasue it appears he’s squishing the duck. Chandler notices how Joey is holding the chick to tight so he says “Easy Lennie”. Chandler refers Lennie from the character of the book Mice and Men. Every person in the show has a career and live in an apartment located in Manhattan. Rachel is a 24 spoiled woman who her father still financially supports her in the first season.. However when her father cuts her off financially because Rachel fled from her wedding with an orthodontist she was going to marry. Rachel then starts to work as a waitress at Central Perk so she can pursue a career in the fashion industry. In an episode Rachel’s sorority sisters go visit her at Central Perk and discovered she is waitress. Rachel’s sorority sister are shocked and feel pity for her because they find it unacceptable for someone like Rachel to be working as a waitress. Ross, the most intelligent from the group, has a PHD and does not only have one job but has two. Ross’s jobs consist of being a college professor at New York University and a paleontologist. Chandler temporary works as an IT procurement manager and later as a Junior Advertising Copywriter. Monica, Ross younger sister, is head chef at the prestige restaurant in Manhattan called Javu. Despite that Ross and Monica’s parents job are not mentioned, Ross’s father Jack Geller owns a Porsche. Whenever their parents would appear in some episodes both Jack and his wife, Judy wore formal clothes such as suits and a dress.
