Families want their children to be in good relationships, and a consummate marriage falls at the highest standard of love. Of course, relationships need more than just intimacy, passion, and commitment such as respect, similar interests, and compromise. Many young girls believe that their boyfriend checks out in all three categories of love, but their parents still don’t like the guy. The clear eyes of outsiders give valuable information when classifying a relationship, and parents generally have good intuition about people as well as the type of love they can offer their child. Kaufman believes it could. “…love’s focus on long-term would enhance holistic thinking and creative thought, whereas lust’s focus on the present would enhance analytical thought.” (Kaufman) Love stimulates powerful actions, and when used properly, real love can give people a creative boost in the work field. Lust on the other hand, which is needed for a consummate marriage, helps people think analytically, but a catch comes with it. Lust only increases analytical thinking if paired with commitment, creating something called “long-term lust.” If no commitment can be paired with the lust, the brain shuts down (Kaufman). In essence, if a person thinks about a one night stand, their brain will turn off. If they think of a long term physical relationship with a person they are very attracted to, then the brain gets a boost in analytical thinking.
