Eli Whitney’s invention helped give slavery a new life in the 1700s and 1800s (11). Eli Whitney was a mechanical engineer, who was the first to invent the cotton gin. The cotton gin is a machine that quickly and efficiently separates cotton fibers from their seeds (2). His machine moves like brush like teeth through the raw cotton, which makes the hard task go by faster. The cotton gin grew to produce a thousand pounds of cotton a day in the 18th century (11).
All three of these quotes connect to the night Melinda was raped. On page 72 when she says "that night" she 's referring to the night of the party her and her old friends went to. A party she was not really supposed to be at. The night that she was raped in the woods. The night she called the cops and got slapped for it.
(33).This quote is important because it shows just how much revenge is in the minds of the characters in the book. Its showed how that they
“‘Man,’ Whitney said staring at me. ‘Anabel sure has changed a lot in the past few months hasn't she?’ (p. 354) This is a quote from the book, Just Listen by Sarah Dessen. Whitney is Anabel Greene’s sister and when she said this she had just witnessed Anabel standing up for herself to Sophie Barker who was her friend at the beginning
With the start of the Industrial Revolution taking shape in America, a plethora of inventors began to contribute, whether they knew how impactful it would be or not. Massachusetts born Eli Whitney was one such inventor. Eli Whitney was a young student who, after graduated from Yale College in 1793, took a ship to Savannah, Georgia in which he was to take up a tutoring position on a South Carolina plantation. He was to become a private tutor while he concurrently prepared to enter law. While on his journey to Georgia Eli met the widow of General Nathanel Greene, Katherine Greene, in which she invited Eli to visit Mulberry Grove, where she believed that he could be of use in aiding local planters with farming issues.
Julian Albans, a character from the book, Wonder, said, ¨Sometimes it's good to start over.¨ While Julian was not the nicest character in the book, we can learn a lot from this quote and his actions. Julian is a very mischievous, and spoiled kid, he is not nice to others and he bullies people a lot. Julian is not an example we need to be following. Therefore, we need to stand up for others, tell people they are cared for, and give back to the community.
“You don’t write because you want to say something, you write because you have something to say” by F. Scott Fitzgerald (brainyquote.com). In story’s there seem to be a common theme of hidden messages that is supposed to allude to more secret meanings later in the story. In the short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald; “Winter Dreams,” There are many secret messages and meanings. One of the things that this story tries to say is that life moves as if someone is hitting the fast-forward button on a remote.
It demonstrates how others are like him. Granted, he didn 't murder anybody but the intention to fight is all the same. “Maybe most other people are messed up, too. It just wasn 't aired on TV” (King 135). The quote highlights the picture because it not only shows Gregor 's intentions, but his inner feelings as well.

Elsie Hickam is Sonny’s mother. Her husband, Homer Hickam Sr. works at the mine as superintendent. Reading the October Sky book, I would say that Elsie was an intelligent, ambitious and supportive woman generally. She doesn’t enjoy living in this small town and she doesn’t support her husband working at the mine. They usually argue about it, and almost all her family was involved in the mining so she hates every aspect of her life there.
Alan Watts once said, “Never pretend to a love which you do not actually feel, for love is not ours to command.” (brainyquotes.com). Watts is saying that we can't just say that we love someone, we have to feel our heart swell with the love we have for that person. In William Shakespeare's, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo and Juliet are not truly in love because they automatically fall ‘in love’ after seeing each other once, they decide to get married a few hours after they meet and they are too immature to actually know what love is . One reason Romeo and Juliet are not truly in love is that they fell in love right after they meet (lust at first sight).
To come to conclusion, in my point of view, Whitney Houston’s tragic life also reminds us to not judge a book by its cover. You can be smiling all the time, laughing with your friends, but deep inside you’re a complete mess. You never know what the person next to you is going through, or what led them to be the person that they are today. Always be kind, help others and be who you want to be without being afraid of others judging you, to live the happy life you
Ambiguity in John Keats poems Applied to the poems To Autumn and La Belle Dame Sans Merci The following essay treats the problem of ambiguity in John Keats poems To Autumn and La Belle Dame Sans Merci.
