R & B: Music Analysis

Rhythm and Blues – also called R&B – music is a very popular music genre. It is so popular because it is enjoyed by a very large audience due to it being a very diverse genre. Personally, I enjoy this genre because since it is such a diverse genre, it matches every mood I’m in. There is music for when you’re sad, happy, and calm. This genre has been enjoyed for many years and by many different types of people. Rhythm and Blues has a very rich and interesting history. Some of the most popular music artists of all time are rhythm and blues artists. This genre is and can be enjoyed by almost every person. The main three categories I listen to are alternative, contemporary, and funk. Alternative lyrics are described as more relatable to normal life than hip-hop is and describes things people who aren’t A-list celebrities experience. This is believed to be the reason alternative R&B is so popular, because the listeners can relate to the lyrics more than other genres. It is mostly influenced by rap and hip-hop. Contemporary is categorized similar to alternative. They both combine the idea of rhythm and blues with pop, soul, funk, hip-hop, and electronic music. Contemporary is similar to hip-hop as it is very upbeat, but more smoothed out than hip-hop. Funk is still very similar to alternative and contemporary, but it is described as a slower tempo and “danceable”. A few other subgenres are motown, soul, and doo-wop. Since there are so many different kinds of R&B music, there’s music for every mood I’m in. I can listen to this genre before games to get pumped up. I can also listen to it before I go to bed to start settling down and calming down, doing my nighttime routine. Personally, I prefer upbeat songs over slower songs. Since it is such a diverse genre, I have different playlists for different moods I’m in for music.
