When I think about manufacturing of physical or hard parts and machine shop type work I break companies into two categories; production or small run. Reviewing the mission statements of many of the companies on http://www.missionstatements.com I noticed some similarities. Most of the companies in this category used words such as quality, precision, continuous improvement, customer satisfaction and cost. I did select one particular company because they do work very similar to mine. The shop I choose to evaluate was R.J.B Industries of Clearfield, UT. R.J.B Industries’ mission statement is “To exceed our customers’ expectations in quality, delivery, and cost through continuous improvement and customer interaction.” Although I believe them to …show more content…

I read all the information available on their website however, didn’t connect what is available to their stated mission which is posted on their Home page. R.J.B Industries self-describes as an “engineering and manufacturing company”. What surprised me is that they seem to target a few very different markets. The do prototyping, Aerospace, consumer electronics, motor sports and parts for the recreation industry. They deviate even further with Sheet Metal Fabrication, and Cable and Harness Design and Fabrication. The reason I say that these are different target markets are not just because the parts are different but that the profit margins and even measures for success are different. Each of these areas require specialized knowledge and tooling. Take for example prototype parts, these are single or extremely small run parts which have a lot of NRC or non-recurring costs such as engineering and cad drawing costs. The
