This is a blessing and a curse because there are so many interesting options that it causes what is known as choice overload. Hopefully, a research opportunity would give me the experience necessary in order to narrow down my list of career interests. However, no matter the specialty I pursue, my future career will definitely consist of research. I want to have a chance to be part of the future and innovate. I want my research to be beneficial for all of society, therefore, I have keen interests in drug development, alternative energy, and green chemistry. I would like to help innovate in these areas in order to develop alternatives or solutions that are safer and more affordable for the general public. In order to accomplish my career goal, I would need to receive a Ph.D. to be qualified and capable to conduct my own research. To reach that goal, I would not only need the theoretical knowledge but also the lab skills, techniques and, familiarity with equipment that I do not normally have access to. Hopefully, the REU program at Oregon State will provide me the opportunity to receive the technical skills and wisdom from seasoned researchers in order to help me become a well-rounded proficient researcher
