RJR Nabisco was a company that once was loyal to its staff and customer before a dramatic change in power. RJR Nabisco came about after a merger between Nabisco Brands and R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. The R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company based out of Winston Salem, North Carolina; Nabisco is a baking company based out of East Hanover, New Jersey. These companies were doing fairly well but like most business owners they saw an opportunity to make more money. The companies merger led to RJR Nabisco collaboration which had about 14,000 employees and gave back to its communities by providing jobs for its residents. F. Ross Johnson is a canadian businessman that became Ceo of RJR Nabisco made some horrendous decisions. Johnson is known as the key component of the deterioration of the company; due to his negligence, greed, and mischievous desires. Like most greedy companies RJR Nabisco started off as an honest company and made money the right way. Johnson like other money hungry businessman became obsessed with power and a chance to add a huge increase in his bank account and also generate revenue for the company. Before Johnson the company didn’t have any selfish desires to become a mega-power on the stock market; RJR Nabisco was raved about so highly due to the fact the company was a business that provided the residents of Winston Salem, North Carolina. How could a business that provided so many jobs for people be disliked by the local population? The answer to that question is F. Ross Johnson. Johnson decided that Winston Salem was not the best place for the company so he decided to move the company's headquarters to New York city and Texas. Johnson let his own personal interest interfere with his vision for the company; his vision became cloudy and this led to his misjudgement in gambling the company away. His love for money caused him to not have a positive outlook on the company’s future; Johnson only cared about his own personal benefit. Another reason this was so unethical was the fact that Johnson not only lost his job, but many of the employees that worked for the company were left without jobs because of new management. Their wasn’t any loyalty amongst him and his employees; Johnson left everybody out to dry but himself. I would never do anything that risk not only my job but the jobs of others because they all have families and work hard to make an honest living. If Johnson was successful with his gamble this would have made him the owner of the whole company, but everything backfired on him this goes to show that a cut throat mentality in business isn’t not always going to make you a successful business man. There isn’t nothing Johnson can do because he lost the trust of so many people that once supported
