On Race, Gender and Class: A Homophobia Perspective
Homophobia, patriarchy and racism are interrelated. Homophobia results from patriarchy and racism to a large extent. Heterosexism is a common practice while homosexuality is labeled as subordinate, evil and awful. Consequently, homophobia pervades groups of people. The system of power and privilege, compulsory heterosexuality, White supremacy patriarchy and the fundamental transformation of American society also lead to homophobia. The White supremacists have exerted control over how people view their bodies and place the root of homosexuality in medical community. For example, in a patriarchy society, women involved in lesbian activity is less threatening than men involved in gay activity.

There is a slim hope of coalition, which is due to the difficulty of forging bonds of trust between various communities of resistance. From the perspective of psycho cultural level, the forms of fear, insecurity and anxiety are disastrous results of the prevailing oppressing system. White supremacists are threats to people of color, so are patriarchy to women and heterosexism and homophobia to gays and lesbians. They stand in an opposing relation and are resistant to forge a mutual respect and trust. To alleviate this tense relation, both those in powers and privilege and those oppressed should make changes. First, the ruling class, the White groups and those with heterosexuality orientation should tolerate those different from them. They should be more open-minded. The prejudice against homosexuality must be eliminated. Homosexuality is a different form of relations. It is nothing more than an alien orientation. The White supremacists must abandon their despise towards people of color. Women should also enjoy the same rights and opportunities as men. Second, those who are prejudiced should be honest and candid with themselves. They should be proud of their orientation. There is nothing to hide in that regard. They should continue their business of living, be true to their own moral integrity and fight an anti-homophobic struggle. It is important to overcome the suffering and understand where it comes from, its causes, its effects. Only when both the two parties act, can the coalition be possible and the real democracy be
