Rachel was a very well know writer, marine biologist, and environmentalists. She had a large impact on the world through her books or studies of the ocean and the outcome of pesticides and fertilizers. Even at an early age she found interest in the study of biology. She was born on May 27, 1907 in Springdale Pennsylvania. Her parents were Maria Frazier and Warden Carson. (Famous People Rachel Carson). Although, in the last three years of working there she became the editor and chief of publication. She loved her position there before, although the writing inspired her even more to write the books she is most famous for. (Famous People Rachel Carson). Her first dip into the public writing was at the bureau. The Atlantic Monthly was her first major writing piece to the public in 1937. That little writing was the basis for her first book. (The Life and Legacy of Rachel Carson). There she found ideas for future books, all while doing what she loves, helping the ocean and the things living in it. Her first book was in 1941 called Under the Sea Wind. It was the first book she published to it didn’t get that much attention, but later on in her life when she became well know many read it. Her second book was more well know in the biologists’ world. The Sea Around Us in 1951 was a best seller, and won a national book award. Along with the awards the book did even more, it freed her from financial dept. From college and taking care of her family she had become very poor, and the book that she wrote about her passion and made money from it. (Rachel Carson Bio). She became the voice of science in America, and the public trusted her. It was life changing for her because she was a women biologist in the 1940-50’s which was hard and knowing the public loved her really helped her keep going and pursue her passion.
