“You’re not supposed to be so blind with patriotism that you can’t face reality. Wrong is wrong no matter who says it” (Malcolm X). Racism began as early as the 1600’s when the English began using African American and European individuals to perform their slave work. Slave work included working on plantations, and any other task the owner wanted them to complete. This is what began the never ending belief that African Americans and Europeans are less than everyone else in the world and that they do not deserve freedom. Racism is a powerful belief that not only effected how individuals view people of color back then, but it also still effects how people view them now.

He stated “We have a system of justice in this country that treats you much better if you're rich and guilty than if you're poor and innocent. Wealth, not culpability, shapes outcomes. And yet, we seem to be very comfortable. The politics of fear and anger have made us believe that these are problems that are not our problems.”(Stevenson, 2015). As citizens of the United States of America there needs to be a stop to this type of system. It encourages racism and is making it worse by allowing innocent African American people to be incarcerated. As Bryan said “You know ultimately, we all have to believe things we haven't seen. We do. As rational as we are, as committed to intellect as we are. Innovation, creativity, development comes not from the ideas in our mind alone. They come from the ideas in our mind that are also fueled by some conviction in our heart. And it's that mind-heart connection that I believe compels us to not just be attentive to all the bright and dazzly things, but also the dark and difficult things”(Stevenson, 2015) If we are more attentive to what is going on in our world we will see the dark and difficult and make a quick change to it. Our system will improve and the innocent will not have to suffer any more
