Racism formed many years ago, but it is still occurring in the world today. The dictionary defines the word racism as “prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one’s own race is superior.” This demoralizing type of hate causes conflict between the two parties in disagreement. Racism can be very violent whether it is in the actions demonstrated by a certain group or verbal abuse by a particular race. Many different groups have been racially attacked, but African-Americans, Chinese/Japanese Americans, and Native Americans have been plagued with racism for a long time. The Native Americans were in North America far before the first settlers arrived. After settling in the New World, there was a numerous amount of conflicts between the settlers and the Native Americans. Eventually the two groups made peace with one another for a period of time. When Andrew Jackson became president feud also came in between the Native Americans and the Americans. President Jackson took land from the Native Americans, which was a problem because the Indians had sacred lands which was being stripped by the U.S. government. After several attempts to make peace with the Americans, the Indians finally began to fight back. With the fighting in place many casualties occurred, but every Native American loss resulted in the loss of their homeland. After a while the Indians finally surrendered and lost most of their holy lands. The American Government then started to place the different tribes in reservations. A reservation was a bounded amount of land granted to the Native Americans by the Government. During the presidency of Andrew Jackson, a famous walk called “the trail of tears” took place. The trail of tears consisted of the Seminole tribe in Florida was forcefully removed from their villages, and then escorted by soldiers to a reservation west of the Mississippi River. The thing is that they made all the Indians travel by foot so they walked for thousands of miles to suffering
