Dystopia Government taking control over society for good. In the book Anthem by Ayn Rand the society is limiting everyone on what they can say and do, but there is one person named Equality that can change all of that. The Government made everyone equal by having everyone learn one thing if one person couldn’t learn it, they would stop teaching it. Ayn Rand made her book a dystopian society by using the literary element man vs. world.
“We are one in all and all in one. There are no men but only the great WE, One, indivisible and forever” (Rand 19). How can an individual be a hero in a collectivist society? In The Anthem, a novella by Ayn Rand, the protagonist, Equality 7-2521 is portrayed as an archetypal epic hero. Equality 7-2521 exhibits the characteristics of an epic hero because he is capable of great deeds, he has a nemesis, and he experiences an event that leads to a quest.
Tohniiya Yazzie per 1 Be unique in your own way, do not let other people tell you what to do. Anthem is a dystopian society. No one thinks for themselves, and there is no individuality, everyone has to think like a group. The leaders are called Council of Scholars and they tell everyone in the society what to think and do. No one is allowed to be different, and everyone is supposed to be the same, which is expected to make the society equal.
In the book Anthem by Ayn Rand, the main character, Equality 7-2521 stated that in this society most people only live to be around 45. I have some theories as to why this is. They are, the government is trying to control population, Once you stop working you are mistreated and malnourished and, the technology and medicine that we have now and before the new society was erected, are no longer present and have not been rediscovered. My first theory as to why Equality 7-2521 stated that people rarely live to be 45 is because; the government is trying to control population. I think that the government is trying to control population because n the in this society everything runs on someone playing a part in making everything work.
There was one time a teenage boy with the name of juan , juan ever since he was young he would the right thing but once the got to college he got really scared and he started to think if he should go or not . At the end he decided not to go and started to work with his father in the family business. But at time people would ask him why he decided not to go to college and he would say because i was scared. His cousins one day tell him that being scared of new things is normal but at least try and fail but at least you try , you will just need to get better for next time.
Equality was a creator his mind had driven him to science he had his own mind, his own strength, and his own courage he was independent, he was brighter than the rest. Standing alone in a modern world ruled by the suppressed government he faced the world alone. In a world where being intellectual was a severe sin he possessed gifts unlike no other that were despised by the government: intellectual and psychological strength. In a world where free will was not allowed and any form of diversity was punished by the authorities. Here we find Equality on a path of self-discovery and independence.
In the novel Anthem the author, Ayn Rand discusses the ways Equality 7-2521’s world is a dystopia because independent thought, information and freedom are restricted, the natural world was banished and distressed, a concept is worshipped by the citizens and the society is an illusion of a perfect , utopian world. To begin with, Ayn Rand explains how the Equality 7-2521’s world is a dystopian society because the freedom of think and do anything for yourself is restricted. Equality states “It is a sin to write this. It is a sin to think words no others think and to put them down upon a paper no others are to see... It is as if we were speaking alone to no ears but our own.
Collectivism and Selfishness in Anthem Imagine living in a world where everybody's lives are completely mapped out by the government. Where every decision is made without the input of the citizens it affects. In the novella Anthem, Ayn Rand depicts a completely collectivist society, where every idea, action, and invention is purely for the benefit of society as a whole. Everything is done with the entire population in mind, and individuality is extremely frowned upon.
As black women always conform under patriarchal principles, women are generally silenced and deprived of rights because men are entitled to control everything. Women are silenced in a way that they lose their confidence and hesitate to speak up due to the norms present in the society they live in. Hence, even if women have the confidence to try to speak, men wouldn’t bother to listen since men ought to believe that they are superior to women. In addition to that, women often live in a life cycle of repetitions due to patriarchal principles since women are established to fulfill the roles the society had given them. It is evidenced by Celie as she struggles to survive and to define oneself apart from the controlling, manipulative, and abusive men in her life.
The excerpt I chose to reflect on is called “An End to the Neglect of the Problems of the Negro Woman!” by Claudia Jones (1949). Jones express the concerns that women of color in her time suffer from the neglect and degradation they receive throughout their lives. During this time, the reason many African American women go through the struggles in their community originated from the notion that the “bourgeoisie is fearful of the militancy of the Negro woman” (108). In my opinion, they have every right to be afraid of African American women. As Jones stated nicely "once Negro women undertake action, the militancy of the whole Negro people, and thus of the anti-imperialist coalition, is greatly enhanced" (108).
Collectivist Society: The idea that people should prioritize the good of society over the welfare of the individual. Collectivism-- relating closely to the word collection—has to do with the political theory that put the group before the individual. The book Anthem by Ayn Rand depicts a completely collectivist society that is very different from our society in America. The council in the book makes strict laws on how one should never exceed the rest of the population in any aspect; everyone must be the same. Before reading this book I would’ve definitely thought that a collectivist society would be a good thing; one wouldn’t have to worry about choosing a job, not being good enough, or being unlike the others, but Ayn Rand really shows the downside of it and how it is not a good way to live.
The novel Anthem by Ayn Rand is taking place in the future. Equality 7-2521 found a tunnel and is doing experiments in it and one day falls in love with Liberty 5-3000. Later in the novel he fails to return to the home of street sweepers and got questioned where he was, but he did not answer. So, they took him Palace of Corrective Detention where they whooped him, but he still did not say anything and so he got sent to jail. He later escaped and tried to show his experiment to Home of the Scholars.
Equality’s society at the end of the story wouldn’t include any of the rules of the city because in the old society they did not allow them to have their own thoughts or explore their own unique nature. Everything they did had to be equal, they could not favor this over that, prefer this that than that and etc. They even had a social hall, which is ironic because none of them were social, they all stayed with their own. Their society demonstrates the evilness of a dictatorship by not allowing them to show any individuality through anything, not through thought, writing or anything else to have in our society. Unlike their society we have the ability to be our own person, have our own thoughts, write and do other things that make up who we are
Imagine a world where everyone is equal, and has equal opportunity. A world in which there is no land separation, allowing for easy travel, and all of the nations work together to help each other. A place where it's always warm outside, but you can see the beauty of the different seasons; this is my utopia. Everyone would be equal, there would be no racism, classism, or sexism. Individualism would still be prominent, people would be equal in the way that they would have an equal opportunity to fulfull their purpose.
By focusing their attention on women of color in the United States and other nations, multicultural feminists remind us that the lives of these women differ in many ways from those of the middle-class women who historically have led U.S. feminist
