These were some of my favorite readings so far that we had been required to read through. They were very enlightening and provided many great perspectives and stories from white and minority people alike. The three readings I enjoyed the most are Defining Racism: “Can We Talk?” by Beverly Daniel Tatum, Color-Blind Racism by Eduardo Bonilla-Silva, and Smells Like Racism by Rita Chaudhry Sethi. What I liked about Bonilla-Silva’s piece is the quotes taken from the white privilege.
The film District 9 was directed by Neil Blomkamp and released in 2009. The main actors in the film were Sharlto Copley who portrays Wikus Merwe and Jason Cope who portrays Christopher Johnson. The film is meant to depict the life of an extraterrestrial race that was forced to stay on earth in deteriorated conditions, while also facing discriminatory treatment from humans. Thus, District 9 demonstrates racism through the aliens, the process of dissociation of Wikus as a human, and how the director intended to humanize the aliens to the audience.
December the 6th, 1865 marks the end of slavery and white supremacy. A glance at the 21st century America manifests otherwise. Racism is an ongoing issue that contributes largely to class boundaries within significant aspects such as economy, education and society of the United States, making people of color inferior to white people. The key components that construct a country into greatness are economy, education and society. The inequality and injustice present in these interlinked components, bound by social class hierarchy, can lead to desisting the full potential to be a globally respectable nation.

Youth of color specifically are at an increased risk of being suspended at an extended time out of schools. Consequently, they are casted into the streets, which ultimately sends them into juvenile detentions or into prison. The problem of racial and ethnic disproportionality in the discipline of schools is not new issue. In 1974, in one of the earliest investigations of disciplinary policies and practices, “the Children’s Defense Fund revealed that suspension rates for African American students were between two and three times higher than those for white students”( Thomas Rudd February 05, 2015) Ongoing research are still showing that in many places, this problem have worsened significantly.
Providing a proper and accurate education to Southern education systems would greatly improve the single-minSolving Racism in the South Throughout history, there have been numerous accounts of discrimination that have been embedded into our way of thinking. Predominantly known for being racist and conservative, the Southern states still incorporate discriminatory views in their own society. Racism is a massive problem in the United States, but there are three possible solutions; educating the public through the education system; breaking down stereotypes; reaching out through social media. dedness of its citizens. I agree they were trying to preserve a way of life that many people were accoustomed to and that did not directly iknfringe on their rights of of coure they were blinded. too blinded to see the unjustice too blinded to see the seperate but equal nonsense they were spewing was utter nonesne. If you could not take the children from those white schools and send them to the African American ones without the circurillum changing or them being appaled by the classroom conditions than equality was not present.
Admittedly, Lindsey’s experience was the product of something much more than internal changes. Educators not only need to make internal but systematic changes as well in order to improve the educational express for African American students. If we improve the quality of education for minorities’ teachers experience can be emphasized. Institutional Structures To improve the quality of life, for African American children, and future generations in the 21st century issues must be addressed and new practices not only empirically but also programmatically.
A new generation of African-American Citizens were quickly becoming tired of their children being denied the right to a proper education and the widespread idea of white racial superiority. Starting in the 1930s, The Howard University School of Law and the NAACP took on cases wanting to fight segregated schools. The cases of: Bolling v. Sharpe (D.C.), Brown v. Board of Education (Kansas), Bulah v. Gebhart and Belton v. Gebhart (Delaware), Briggs v. Elliott (South Carolina), and Davis v. County School Board of Prince Edward County (Virginia), were combined because they sought after once and for all desegregating schools in the United States. At the beginning of Chapter two in Difference Matters, Allen (2012) states that when she/he saw a picture with Latinos, she/he assumed that they had committed a crime or done something wrong. Allen (2012) said that “my social conditioning had kicked in” (p. 65). According to Tillyer and Engel (2013), social conditioning includes stereotypes or cognitive scripts that differ depending on race/ethnicity, or other characteristics such as gender or age. In high school, I had a math class which consisted of mostly African American males. Most of the males in this class were from a poorer socioeconomic environment than many of the students in the school.

In the story, “Leaves from the Mental Portfolio of an Eurasian,” a girl is being treated differently because of who she is. Her mother is Chinese and her father is American. Back in the days, interracial marriage was highly rejected. This wasn’t just an issue back then, but it is still happening in today’s world. Many people are experiencing inequality due to their race.
