These were some of my favorite readings so far that we had been required to read through. They were very enlightening and provided many great perspectives and stories from white and minority people alike. The three readings I enjoyed the most are Defining Racism: “Can We Talk?” by Beverly Daniel Tatum, Color-Blind Racism by Eduardo Bonilla-Silva, and Smells Like Racism by Rita Chaudhry Sethi. What I liked about Bonilla-Silva’s piece is the quotes taken from the white privilege.
The film District 9 was directed by Neil Blomkamp and released in 2009. The main actors in the film were Sharlto Copley who portrays Wikus Merwe and Jason Cope who portrays Christopher Johnson. The film is meant to depict the life of an extraterrestrial race that was forced to stay on earth in deteriorated conditions, while also facing discriminatory treatment from humans. Thus, District 9 demonstrates racism through the aliens, the process of dissociation of Wikus as a human, and how the director intended to humanize the aliens to the audience.
December the 6th, 1865 marks the end of slavery and white supremacy. A glance at the 21st century America manifests otherwise. Racism is an ongoing issue that contributes largely to class boundaries within significant aspects such as economy, education and society of the United States, making people of color inferior to white people. The key components that construct a country into greatness are economy, education and society. The inequality and injustice present in these interlinked components, bound by social class hierarchy, can lead to desisting the full potential to be a globally respectable nation.
In the film Cold Hand Luke, directed by Stuart Rosenberg he uses Luke as a christ figure. Through Luke it helps reveal the big message of the film, the struggle in life to keep faith in God that can fade by cruel punishment and by unfair treatment by other beings. To begin, for one to fully grasp how Luke deepens the theme let's explain how he fits the archetype of a christ figure. As demonstrated by Thomas Foster, he outlines specific elements that qualify characters as a christ figure. Luke fits many of these characterics such as being around 33 years old, in agony, and being self sacrificing.

Admittedly, Lindsey’s experience was the product of something much more than internal changes. Educators not only need to make internal but systematic changes as well in order to improve the educational express for African American students. If we improve the quality of education for minorities’ teachers experience can be emphasized. Institutional Structures To improve the quality of life, for African American children, and future generations in the 21st century issues must be addressed and new practices not only empirically but also programmatically.
