During this time, racial prejudice was commonplace and institutionalized, leading to a strong culture of discrimination against certain ethnicities. Racism has been a part of the American experience since the nation’s founding, and it continues to be a significant force in limiting opportunities for people of color. Racism also limits access to political power and has been used to silence minority voices and keep people of color from achieving true equality in our society.
