Racism is a monstrosity that still exists in our society, despite what many people believe. Just like in The Help, some people today believe that racism has disappeared from the world but they are horribly wrong. While racism might not be as prevalent today as it was pre-civil war, it still influences our lives. In The Help, black housemaids serve justice to their racist “employers” who treat them like they would slaves. "A bill that requires every white home to have a separate bathroom for the colored help. Today, racism takes shape in the form of stereotypes. These stereotypes limit what people can do despite their race. A Latino male wouldn’t be expected to be the C.E.O. of a multi-billion dollar company, while a white male would. These stereotypes are not based entirely off of fact but are instead made up of assumptions. An African American would probably get a longer prison sentence than a white person would, just because of race. Finally, there is the social aspect of racism. African Americans are not expected to be smart and are pressured to be friends with other African Americans, the same goes for every race. Racism is nowhere near as prevalent as it was in the 1800’s but, it’s still very real and impactful. Racism is a disease that will infect anyone, it can be found all over the world, and nothing is being done beyond the point of eliminating slavery. In conclusion, racism will infect the hearts and minds of anyone it can. People need to see that the color of one’s skin does not matter, and should not affect their lives. Anyone can fight racism, and they don’t have to preach it’s deadliness to the world to do so. Just looking past one person’s race is enough to change their lives and thus those around them. Racism can be eradicated, but people are choosing to ignore it as it changed to fit into today
