“The Most Dangerous Game,” by Richard Connell, is a story about Sanger Rainsford, a big game hunter, on his way to the Amazon who accidentally falls overboard of the side of the yacht and ends up on Ship-Trap Island. He soon finds a house belonging to General Zaroff and his servant Ivan. Rainsford learns that Zaroff is hunting humans. Zaroff tries to convince Sanger to hunt with him, but he declines in outrage. The General is furious and decides to make Rainsford play the game. In the end, Rainsford is the winner and kills Zaroff. The central idea of the story is how easy it is to become the hunted instead of the hunter in certain situations.
Connell develops a round dynamic character with the protagonist Rainsford while also using stereotypes, such as the refined but evil villain and his dim-witted, but loyal servant, to define the other characters in the story. In “The Most …show more content…

This third person point of view also increases the suspense the reader feels as they read the story and try to figure out the antagonist next move. The point of view used in the story helps to create a sense of irony by allowing the reader into the mindset of the protagonist as he ironically becomes hunted and learns “the full meaning of terror” (311).The third person limited omniscient point of view of this story allows us to see and experience the central idea as Rainsford changes from being the hunter to hunted and back to the hunter in the end. “The Most Dangerous Game” would be a lot different if it were told in the first person because the reader wouldn’t have known the mortal danger that Rainsford faced since it would lose would the perspective of the other
