The protagonist of “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, Sanger Rainsford, faces multiple influential conflicts. In the beginning of the short story, he faces a conflict with the sea. The weather wrecks his yacht, leading him to fall out of the ship. This conflict is Rainsford vs nature, and he overcomes this by swimming ashore and seeking shelter. If the conflict with nature had not occured, Rainsford would not have landed on Ship-Trap island. Therefore, he would not have met General Zaroff, and the plot would not have moved forward. When he met Zaroff, another conflict arose. As revealed in the dinner scene, Zaroff enjoys hunting “more dangerous” prey--humans. Rainsford becomes one of these prey, and the two men face off in a hunt
