Raise The Driving Age Are teens so worthless that you are going to watch them die due to low driving ages? In America the average driving age is 16. That is far too young for a person to gain the responsibility of driving. If we raise the driving age to at least 18, it will help young drivers that don’t have fully developed brains, it will lower obesity, and reduce number of deaths. Let’s see why teens lack maturity to make the right decisions. This action may not be popular at first, but this could and will reduce the amount of teen deaths. It is true that experience leads to driving well, so whether a teen starts at 16 or 18 doesn’t matter. An article written by Staff Reports called “Don’t Raise Driving Age” says that “parents driving their kids everywhere they need to go can be very troublesome, but giving their 16 year olds the keys is a relief”. Teens also need to learn to take on some responsibilities themselves which starts with driving a car. ”In South Carolina, for example, teens can get a beginner's permit with a written test at age 15. They are required to have an adult over age 21 with them at all times when they drive”. The system in South Carolina is a big improvement where teens can take their driving test with no preconditions. Teens do need to take on some responsibilities, but this isn’t persuasive because their brain’s are not fully developed which makes them very likely to make the wrong decision while driving. For example, a teen goes driving to the store to do something simple like buying groceries. That person decides to take a friend with them and the next thing they know, they crash into another car.
