The idea of wishing and hoping often appears in the story Lord of the Flies and in other forms of media. The boys in the book have hardships that they face while on the island, but Ralph tries to hold onto the feeling of hope and tries to spread positivity around the camp. Once the boys get discouraged they usually come back to hoping to get rescued. In the movie “Soul Surfer” the main character never gives up and fights to stay alive. She is discouraged during the story but continues to try to achieve her goals, similar to how Ralph and the boys get up after being knocked down more than once. Hope ends up overcoming any doubts. This is apparent in both the book and the movie, which both end happily because they held onto their hope and didn’t become disheartened because of ongoing obstacles they faced. …show more content…

Ralph nervously asks Piggy, ‘“Aren’t there any grownups at all?” And Piggy responds “I don’t think so”’(Golding 8). Although there were none Ralph took charge and remained calm. It was extremely hard for Ralph to get all the respect and attention he deserved. Often when Ralph would talk he was ignored and talked over. Not being taken serious took a toll on him during the story. Jack and his aggressive personality took away from Ralph and his reasonable attitude. Later Ralph’s true feelings started to be apparent towards the end of the book when he was let down by the boys. Ralph and Piggy’s purpose of remaining hopeful was to be leaders for the little boys. After the group fell apart Ralph’s attitude shifted, making Piggy take over and boost Ralph back to spirit. In the beginning of the story Ralph was the one to spread hope throughout the camp but when things changed Piggy had to remind Ralph and the boys of their desire of leaving when Ralph became
