Ralph Ellison an author who wanted to become someone and succeeded with many accomplishments but went through many obstacles to achieve his fame. To begin with, Ellison was a literary critic and a scholar (famous authors). Ellison did not let any obstacles stop him and that helped him achieve his goal. But who really was Ralph Ellison behind his great accomplishments from publishing a great book to being awarded many awards. First and foremost, Ralph Waldo Emerson was a famous African American novelist (famous authors). Ellison is now remembered mostly as the mastermind who wrote the novel Invisible Man both emotive and gripping(famous authors).He was than later awarded the National Book Award in 1953(shmoop editorial team). His father died from lifting a hundred-point block of ice and while doing that it stabbed him in the stomach which later caused him to die from his injuries(shmoop editorial team). His father’s death left Ellison, his mother, and younger brother struggling financially and mother Ida had to get many jobs to support her 2 sons (famous authors). For that reason his mother wanted Ralph to take on the habit of reading she would bring books and magazines from the residences she would clean but an African American priest was the one who gave many people the opportunity to access a public library which exposed Ralph entirely to a different world(famous authors). Before Lewis Ellison ,Ralph’s father died he had always wanted his son to become a poet. Ralph was named after the famous poet Ralph Waldo Emerson(famous authors). Years later Ellison graduates from Douglas High School (an all black school) with honors, he later enrolled in Tuskegee
