Ever so often we are faced with the horrendous acts humankind is capable of. The Lord of the Flies written by William Golding is a fictional book about a group of british school boys who get stranded on an island which showcases the savagery we are all capable of. They lose their civility and become savages, and as a result some die such as Simon, Piggy and the boy with the birthmark. Until they are saved at last by a naval officer. All in all Ralph’s poor leadership and Jack’s unrestrained brutality were the ultimate reason for the islands demise.
“How could you be safe by the little stream or on the open beach?” (183) After Ralph ran away, he was alone with no one to help him while he was injured. Ralph doesn’t feel safe anywhere since they group of savage boys could be anywhere to attack Ralph. After they group of boys decided to join Jack in his tribe, the group of boys turned into savages.
I believe that partially everyone was to blame for what happened on the island but most importantly I believe it was mainly Jack and Ralph. The reason why I think Ralph is to blame is because he kept the fire as one of the main priorities and wouldn’t really shut up about it and I think that if he did focus as much as he did on the fire with shelter, attaining food and water then they wouldn’t have divided. The other reason I believe Ralph is to blame is because he only enforced that someone would have to keep the fire in control and didn’t coerce the boys into making shelters. I think Ralph is to blame for what happened on the island because he was cocky and didn’t really want to listen to other boys. I think if he toned it down a little bit,
“The Word, that understandable and lawful Word, was slipping away.” (Golding 82). Ralph, the original leader of the boys in the Lord of The Flies, is initially a great leader and person. Ralph soon becomes pulled by his desires, a recurring theme of human nature seen frequently. Ralph experiences a man vs. societal conflict due to Jack’s influence but is resolved through the arrival of the long-awaited Naval officer.
With absolute power comes absolute corruption, but with limited power comes limited corruption. In the novel Lord of the Flies, the arbitrary need for a leader brings forward strife and competition between characters that desire power. Ralph with his old democratic leadership style clashes with Jack’s unethical style to rule. In the book Lord of the Flies, we learn that eagerness for power is strong enough to break the boys’ fragile civilization, which is demonstrated by the characters Ralph, Piggy and Jack.
In the novel “Lord of the Flies” by William Golding the ultimate one responsible for the destruction of the island is Jack. In the novel Golding has wrote about how a group of british boys crashed on a plane and landed on a island where there are no adults,just little british boys stranded on a island .In the beginning one of the boys Ralph was the responsible leader where he knew what to do an how to manage. But of course there was this one cureles jealous boy that wanted to be a leader,the one in charge. Because of how ruthless and savage Jack was he took the fear that the boys had within them and used it against them to make them join his tribe which started the destruction of the island.
Throughout the entire story, Ralph has been the one to be civilized. He represents the order in the story by making sure to remind everyone of who they are. Ralph keeps the humanity in the boys despite the fact that
Democratic power can be used to control a society, as well as establish a closeness as civilians. To lose sight of this can mean the corruption of a civilization caused by the lack of order. One’s choice of independence in order to better the chances of their survival requires complete dedication and willingness to risk. In William Golding’s Lord of the Flies, Ralph loses his democratic power due to his failure to ensure survival and protect the boys as a leader. Ralph’s failure to lead the group is due to his initial and chronic independence and inability to compete with Jack’s followers, accounted for mainly by fear.
At first glance, Ralph is a central character who starts and completes William Golding novel The Lord of the Flies. From the onset of the novel, he is described as a “fair boy” with an “attractive appearance” (p7, 29). The author compares his stature as that of a boxer, “as far as width and heaviness of shoulders went, but there was a mildness about his mouth and eyes that proclaimed no devil” (p11). He has the physique and presence of a typical leader – strong but with a kind heart that makes him trustworthy.

In the midst of the 1950 's, the Cold War begins. While in that period, William Golding creates Lord of the Flies published in 1954. This is a novel about young school boys crash landing on an island. The boys on the island let the fear of something inside of them be in control. In the story, there are lots of events that take place and characters that take part.
The changing relationship between Ralph and Jack, the protagonist and antagonist in Lord of the Flies is one where these two boys at first seem like allies but quickly diverge and distance themselves apart and soon become completely at odds with one another. Due to the different approaches they take in the leadership of a group of boys stranded on an uninhabited island, the group splits into two opposing and even warring factions, showing the severity of their antagonism. In the beginning, relations between Ralph and Jack are not as hostile. When they explore their island, they appear to act like friends, fooling around and casually playing.
Simon met his fate, getting dismembered, Cato was cruelly devoured while Katniss watched, Rue was stabbed fatally, Ralph was ruthlessly hunted. These events all have exactly one thing in common, the brutality of children. Throughout the books Lord of the Flies and The Hunger Games, many ideas about human nature have been brought forth, they have been shown through characters, like Ralph and Katniss, through objects, like the representation of fire, and through events, like the degradation of civility throughout the books. So, what is being said about human nature?
I do believe that the main character changed by the end of the book, although some other characters changed a bit more, I still believe that Ralph changed drastically during the entire span of the book. Ralph, I believe that he starts out as an optimistic and calm boy, and with confidence in himself and that they are going to find a way off the island and a way back home. But, during chapter nine, a savage side shows while he joins the boys chanting about the pig. He only realizes, that later, he never should have participated in the cruel and horrifying act, because of how frightened the whole scene made him. Golding wrote Lord of the Flies that soon became published on September 17, 1954. In the story, two characters that have a lot of differences between each other are Ralph and Jack. Examples of some of their differences include the fact that Ralph is a leader, Jack wants to be in control of things, and they both have different goals they want to achieve on the island.
