What makes a good leader? Is it the passion they have for a cause larger than themselves, the dreams of a vision that will better society? In the novel lord of the flies there is a character that stands out for his leadership among the others, who rises and leads with nobility. Ralph shows this in lord of the flies by being able to possess the ability to show initiative, responsibility, determination and of course courage. Ralph liked keeping order on the island. While most of the boys were goofing around and to fascinating with playing, Ralph enables survival mode and sets out to find objects to build huts, while pondering how to be rescued from the island. For that cause, Ralph’s empowerment and influence over the boys are secure from the beginning of the novel. Ralph waved the conch, “shut up! Wait! Listen!” Ralph went on in silence, born from his triumph. “There’s another thing. We can help them to find us. So, we must make smoke on the top of the mountain. Furious, Ralph boldly approached Jack, but the hunters returned with their first kill and causes everyone to go crazy. Piggy goes to blame Jack for the fire, but Jack hits Piggy. Ralph blows the conch to restore order to the island. When Ralph comes up with another idea with building another fire, but this time on the beach instead of the mountains. While Ralph goes about his plan some of his follower slip away to go follow under Jacks power. This creates more tension, when Jacks follower kill Simon and steal Piggy’s glasses, Ralph goes to show reason to Jack instead of going straight into war, this is another reason why Ralph is a good leader because he tries to reason
