Ralph- Overall Ralph is a pretty independent character. He was elected the leader of the boys at the beginning of the story. Ralph is a natural born leader and has influences over the other boys. Ralph has the conch shell which symbolizes a sense of power, he blows the conch shell to assemble all the boys together to meet. Without Ralph it is very unlikely the boys would have a leader and be as organized. Organization is very essential in the position they are in.
Piggy- Piggy seems to be very smart. In the first chapter he mentions he has asthma, which he was unusually proud of. He is also overweight, and dislikes the name Piggy. He appears almost desperate for a friend, because he confides in Ralph his embarrassing childhood nickname. He was still the leader over the choir, which they called hunters. He declared that the conch shell only applied to some parts of the island, but was overruled by Ralph. Sam & Eric- They have very similar qualities since they are twins, it is like they can’t function without each other. Whenever they cover a shift they have to go together. The one time they took different shifts they slept together and the fire went out.
Maurice- So far, Maurice seems to be outgoing, and social with the other boys. He doesn’t seem to be as important as far as symbolization as other characters do such as Jack. He is playful and creative especially in the situation they are in. During a chant they were having, “kill the pig” he pretended to be a pig. I perceived this to mean, he conformed to make other people laugh. Roger- Roger is one of the meanest characters. He is almost as mean as Jack, while Jack is more sneaky and insulting Roger is rude in his actions. He kicks down sand castles and throws sand at the littluns.
