Chapter 1: Ralph-has leadership and is smart, since he came up with blowing the conch when there is a meeting and went exploring on the island. In the future I think Ralph will continue to show his intelligence and be a great leader. Piggy-Piggy seems very nice and is eager to become friends with Ralph and is very trusting. I think Piggy will be made fun of since they found out from Ralph that his name is Piggy. Piggy seems to be an outsider since he wears glasses, has asthma, and is overweight.
Jack Merridew Analysis Jack Merridew is a key character in The Lord of the Flies. Without him, the protagonist Ralph would have no adversary, and the savage boys would have no leader. Near the beginning, Jack appears to be a scrawny, unattractive boy but it soon becomes clear that he is a powerful and manipulative figure one should fear. When Jack first comes out of the foliage with his choir group, he seems fairly confident and prideful. He is able to lead the choir comfortably as if he were born to be a tyrannical ruler.
Drew Turner 12-19-12 English IIIIA Lord of The Flies Have you ever wondered what life would be like without rule, law, and parents? I didn’t think so, but a kid named Ralph which is one of the kids that get stuck on the island and steps up to be a leader. Ralph was an intelligent kid. Ralph was a good leader that knew how to keep civilization and peace but he kept messing up by trusting the wrong people which would later on be a big mistake.
Simon is a character who doesn't say much, but when he does speak, it is to reveal some sort of truth and his words are sometimes prophetic. Often times, Simon is at a loss for words or has a lack of confidence when he wants to speak to a large group of his peers: "Simon became inarticulate in his effort to express mankind's essential illness" (89). In this line, Simon is trying to say that the beast is something dark within the boys themselves, which is "mankind's essential illness", or evil nature. He is the
but then he gets cut-off because Ralph isn’t interested in his wisdom. Piggy is perceived as a goof or jester because he is overweight. “Piggy shows that morality and maturity are needed to balance people’s wild instincts”(Lord of the Flies). Piggy’s wisdom and knowledge exemplifies the good qualities in human society. Piggy, Simon, and Ralph were the ones who attempted to keep order, but Ralph was the one in charge of the whole
In the novel “Lord of the Flies” by William Golding the ultimate one responsible for the destruction of the island is Jack. In the novel Golding has wrote about how a group of british boys crashed on a plane and landed on a island where there are no adults, just little british boys stranded on a island .In the beginning one of the boys Ralph was the responsible leader where he knew what to do an how to manage. But of course there was this one cureles jealous boy that wanted to be a leader, the one in charge. Because of how ruthless and savage Jack was he took the fear that the boys had within them and used it against them to make them join his tribe which started the destruction of the island.
At first glance, Ralph is a central character who starts and completes William Golding novel The Lord of the Flies. From the onset of the novel, he is described as a “fair boy” with an “attractive appearance” (p7, 29). The author compares his stature as that of a boxer, “as far as width and heaviness of shoulders went, but there was a mildness about his mouth and eyes that proclaimed no devil” (p11). He has the physique and presence of a typical leader – strong but with a kind heart that makes him trustworthy.
Simon grew up on the main land till he reached the age of 13. It was then he as enrolled into Redleaves Academy. All he wanted to do was to be a good dad, Simon didn't care about what field to go to. He just wanted to become a husband and dad to a loving family. This made him a little too forward with the ladies and they tend to push him away.
Ralph follows his inner voice, and his voice of reason. This is typically portrayed by Piggy, and his ideas. This is evident by the fact Piggy is the first person who speaks in the novel. Not only does he represent the Superego, but he also represents insecurities and intrusive thoughts. Piggy is the only one on the island who is extremely physically weak.
Although Golding describes Simon as a mischievous character. “He was a small, skinny boy, his chin pointed, and his eyes so bright they deceived Ralph into thinking him delightfully gay and wicked.” [Golding 55] Simon also has the ability to adapt to the nature that surrounds him, making him aware of the situations around him. “Simon paused.
Ralph and Simon are both the “good” characters in the Lord of the Flies, but their goodness spark from two different origins. Simon is sometimes considered somewhat of a Christ-like figure. He confronted the Lord of the Flies, just like the Devil confronted Jesus at once. The Garden of Eden is a pristine place with evil corrupting it.
Simon, the Disciple “He was a small, skinny boy, his chin pointed, and his eyes so bright they had deceived Ralph into thinking him delightfully gay and wicked” (Golding, 55). Simon, a character in the “Lord of the Flies” is a “skinny vivid little boy” yet the boy is strong and stands up for he what believes is right. (FIX SENT.) That is just one of the many qualities this boy has. Simon is a very wise and philosophical type of boy.
Simon, one of the main character in the book Lord of the Flies, is the only wise character there in the book. Each character have their own symbol that represents themselves. For instance this mask symbolize the inner nature of Simon. This mask illustrate two different perspective of Simon's innocence and uniqueness.
In the book Lord of the Files, we’re brought upon the question “is Jack a villain or the true definition of survival of the fittest?” With many opinions, feelings, and thoughts on that question. It’s more than likely that everyone will decide on Jake being a “villain,” which of course is easy to spot out because Jake could be blamed for a couple of deaths throughout the book, and his savagery demeanor portrays a villainous outlook. Stranded on an island with their classmates. Jack is more of the primary example of a tough leader, more of a savage, likes violence, and desires power.
Piggy on the other hand represents intelligence and stability. Piggy is the individual to fight for and encourage the use of the conch within the group of the boys. The conch encourages civilization and disrupts the savageness that occurs for each of the boys. It brings order and stability to the group. Although Ralph loses his sanity at some points of the novel such as when he participates in the hunting of the pig and becomes proud upon his actions; Ralph is shown mainly as a leader who owns up to his actions when encountering the adult towards the end of the novel and taking responsibility for the inconveniences regarding the group of boys.
