A leader has many qualities. To decide whether someone is a good leader, you have to go through a long checklist. In the novel Lord Of The Flies by William Golding, boys get stuck on an island after a plane crash. Golding shows the good and the evil in little boys. There are two different kinds of leadership within this book. An effective leader is someone who gets stuff done. It’s someone who keeps people on track, and has goals to get good things done. Ralph is an effective. Ralph is the chief but he doesn’t take all the power. He can see that Jack wants power and isn’t happy that Ralph is in charge. Ralph let’s Jack be the leader of the choir. Ralph said, “Jack’s in charge of the choir. They can be- what do you want them to be? Hunters. Jack and Ralph smiled at each other shy liking” (Golding 28). Ralph knows that in order to be rescued they need to start a fire. “There’s another thing. We can help them find us. If a ship comes near the island they may not notice us. So we must make smoke on top of the mountain. We must make a fire” (Golding 38). There is no way they can be rescued if they not know anyone’s on the island. Although the fire fails, Ralph was still determined to get a fire going. He also cares about the younger children. “They talk and scream, the littluns. Even some others. As if it wasn’t a good island” (Golding 52). The little ones are scared and having nightmares, Ralph starts to worry about
