In every story, the writer puts in some type of leadership in the story. Leadership is the action of leading a group of people or organization. Whether the leader is good or evil it requires the leader to have some skills. The leader must have skills such as listening to others, being a good public speaker, and having bravery. In the story “Lord of the Flies,” Ralph was the only elected leader in story. Ralph had the skill to listen to others. Ralph thought of the idea of using the conch shell so others can speak. The rule of the conch shell was that the person holding it was the only one allowed to speak. Ralph respected the conch shell very much. He believed that it was the right thing to listen while others were speaking. He also was able to listen to others ideas and consider using them. Ralph thought of the idea of use the conch shell. The other rule of the conch shell was when it was blown, it was time for an assembly. In the book, Ralph says “we need an assembly. Not for fun. Not for laughing and falling of the log, not for making jokes or not for cleverness. Not for the these things. But to put things straight” (Golding page 79). He believed that the group needed some type of order so they can get rescued. The person that usually talked among the whole group was Ralph. The other members of the group were allowed to speak and put in their ideas. Ralph was able to talk among the group about staying on the task of trying to get rescued. He tried hard to keep the group on task, he called for many assemblies. He spoke to the group about the importance of the fire, it was the key to getting rescued.
