Ever so often we are faced with the horrendous acts humankind is capable of. The Lord of the Flies written by William Golding is a fictional book about a group of british school boys who get stranded on an island which showcases the savagery we are all capable of. They lose their civility and become savages, and as a result some die such as Simon, Piggy and the boy with the birthmark. Until they are saved at last by a naval officer. All in all Ralph’s poor leadership and Jack’s unrestrained brutality were the ultimate reason for the islands demise.
I chose a mirror to represent Ralph. When the boys hold an election for chief, Ralph is elected on the basis that he’s pretty. He confidently says “we want to be rescued, so we shall be rescued.” Ralph has charisma so this statement is just left unchallenged by the boys. He has no better idea about when they’ll be rescued than the rest of them!
The quotation above is the dialogue between Ralph and Samneric (twin). It shows that they still care with Ralph, because they were part of Ralph 's group before. They ask Ralph go escape far away because Jack will be killed tomorrow. The above quote also mention about forgetting common sense and also a chief. It shows that they 're no longer thinking based on logic or based on the superego.
“How could you be safe by the little stream or on the open beach?” (183) After Ralph ran away, he was alone with no one to help him while he was injured. Ralph doesn’t feel safe anywhere since they group of savage boys could be anywhere to attack Ralph. After they group of boys decided to join Jack in his tribe, the group of boys turned into savages.
The island is their home now, where they will work to survive, where they will make a new home and start climbing Maslow’s pyramid all over again. The island is their life, meeting new people and making new rules, they rebuild their lives the moment they set foot on new ground. In the book Lord of the Flies by William Golding, two characters that meet varying levels of their needs from Maslow’s pyramid are Ralph and Piggy, although each person meets each need in a different way. The reason why I think Ralph is to blame is because he kept the fire as one of the main priorities and wouldn’t really shut up about it and I think that if he did focus as much as he did on the fire with shelter, attaining food and water then they wouldn’t have divided. The other reason I believe Ralph is to blame is because he only enforced that someone would have to keep the fire in control and didn’t coerce the boys into making shelters. In William Golding’s Lord of the Flies, after a plane crashes on a deserted island, a group of kids with no adult supervision on the island, the kid have to figure out how to survive and get rescued. Ralph is voted as leader of the group, because he seems like he looked the part and had good charisma. Ralph blows the conch shell to assemble all of the kids to see who survived and to discuss what to do next. At first we see that Ralph does show he can be a good leader by making a plan on how to get rescued and assigning jobs to other kids. But as the book progresses he slowly turns into a bad leader who does not have control over the kids, when he gets frustrated and cannot control the kids to do their jobs.
Democratic power can be used to control a society, as well as establish a closeness as civilians. To lose sight of this can mean the corruption of a civilization caused by the lack of order. One’s choice of independence in order to better the chances of their survival requires complete dedication and willingness to risk. In William Golding’s Lord of the Flies, Ralph loses his democratic power due to his failure to ensure survival and protect the boys as a leader. Ralph’s failure to lead the group is due to his initial and chronic independence and inability to compete with Jack’s followers, accounted for mainly by fear.

From the onset of the novel, he is described as a “fair boy” with an “attractive appearance” (p7, 29).
