Rand Paul, Kentucky Senator, has opposed NSA surveillance for a long time, and has used the rare strategy of an hours-long Senate filibuster to postpone voting on a renewal of the Patriot Act until after it has expired. He asserted that the Patriot Act was the most unpatriotic of acts. There comes a time when fear and complacency allow power to build up and liberty and privacy to deteriorate.
