Ranger's Apprentice Book Report The title of this book is Ranger's Apprentice: Ruins of Gorlan. The book is written by John Flanagan. This book is the first of a series of books about an orphan boy named Will. The story takes place at Castle Redmont in the Kingdom of Araluen. The period the story takes place is in Medieval times when people lived in castles and villages. Castle Redmont and the lands around it are the center stage where the story takes place. The main character is named Will, an orphan of age 15 years. Will has a best friend named Horace who is the same age but Horace, unlike Will, is big and strong and he's a bit of a bully to Will at first. Will's teacher is an experienced ranger named Halt who thinks Will has some of the right qualities to become a ranger. …show more content…

Will is also very quick, smart, and agile so Halt chooses him to become his apprentice. At first Will didn't understand the rangers and thought they were mysterious. Eventually he learns with Halt's help that rangers are the protectors of the kingdom and enforce the laws. At the beginning of his apprenticeship, Will had to do all sorts of chores and tedious housework for Halt, which he resented. After proving himself to Halt, he started his real training which was learning how to shoot a bow and arrow, use knives, how to defend himself, and how to be stealthy. Another important part of the story is Will's friendship with Horace. At first Horace and Will do not get along but after Will saves Horace from a wild boar they eventually become friends. Will dedicates himself to becoming a skilled ranger's apprentice and a strong and mature young
