Themes are huge life lessons that can be taught in a variety of different mediums. From here there are many different kinds of mediums that themes can be shown in. Some of these include novels or books or any kind of stories. Next is a full length movie. They are both very different but themes can be shown throughout both. We have had the chance to read a short story called The Ransom of Red Chief and watch a movie called Home Alone. One strong theme that can be observed in The Ransom of Red Chief is don't judge a book by its cover. This can be proven because when Sam and Bill try to kidnap Johnny, they think he is just a sweet, innocent little boy but they were wrong. This can also be seen in Home Alone. The first kind of irony is verbal irony. This is viewed in Home Alone when Harry said that Kevin was a creep but he was the one spying and stalking on him. In the movie Home Alone, Harry says “ That kid is such a creep he’s going to get it”. Another type of irony is situational irony. One piece of situational irony is in the beginning of the movie when we think Kevin is going to just act like a kid when his family leaves. We expected him to trash the house but he actually acted like an adult and cleaned the house and bought groceries. The third and final piece of irony is called dramatic irony. In this film, we see dramatic irony when Kevin is laying the floor behind the doggy door with a gun. He was ready to shoot harry And Marvin when they tried to break in. Many of this is reflected in the story The Ransom of Red Chief. We never really saw any verbal irony in this passage. We did however, see situational irony. An example of situational irony we observed in this story is how we expected Red Chief’s father to react to the kidnapping. We think he would be like any parent and be absolutely terrified that his child is gone. But, he actually doesn’t seem to care. It is like he knew they would return his son. We also saw a little bit of dramatic irony. This is shown in the beginning of this test when Sam and Bill first kidnap Johnny, but he only thinks that it’s a camping trip. The audience obviously knows what’s going on but he doesn’t. This reveals there is a lot of irony we can see as many different
