Music has changed rapidly throughout the ages, but these three albums, revised the hip-hop and rap genre drastically. These three albums changed the genre drastically because of the change in tempo, lyrics, and popularity. These three musical albums, “Straight outta Compton”, “Finally Rich”, and “Illmatic” revolutionized the genre of rap in their own ways and conceptions. “Finally Rich” created “Drill Rap”, “Straight Outta Compton” created “Gangster Rap”, and “Illmatic” brought a great lyrics, tempo, and was nationally popular and loved. Chief was aged 17 when he released the highly criticized album. Chief was born in southside Chicago into an environment of violence, substance abuse, and gang related activity. “Brutally violent and sexual imagery in his lyrics (and equally disturbing actions) have made the 17-year-old Keith Cozart a poster child for everything we as a country need to save the youth of Chicago from. Rhymefest and Lupe Fiasco have both gone on record this year to criticize Cozart and the content of his music, especially after the Chicago Police Department announced on September 5 that he is under investigation in connection with the shooting death of local rap scene peer Joseph "Lil JoJo" Coleman.” ("Five Rap Albums That Changed the Game in 2012"). Although many gave the album favorable reviews, many did not agree with it. Other rap artists have criticized Chief’s album and the fact that Chief was in some way related to the death of a fellow rapper. Although he may not be the ideal rapper to look up to, most agree he did revolutionize the genre with the introduction of “Drill Rap”. This sub-genre is based upon the hard life of people living in south side chicago and how the only way to survive is to make money through illegal activities, Chief is currently working on a new album whilst “Nas” the creator of “Illmatic” is still making songs after all the years he has been producing
