The Rape of Nanking, which started on December 1937, was the mass killing the ravaging of Chinese citizens. They were raped and murdered, they also took people's possessions. Families were massacred, and even the elderly and infants were targeted for execution, while tens of thousands of women were raped. Bodies littered the streets for months after the attack. The Rape of Nanking went on for about six weeks. The event left 300,000 people killed out of the 600,000 people in China’s capital city. Bearing witness to The Nanjing Massacre helps others to learn about this event and get a better viewpoint on the world. Chen Fengying a survivor of The Rape of Nanking, had to bare witness to the city being set on fire, and horrible activities that were being done to people, it was so bad that she had to shave her head and hide away. Chen's sister-in-law killed herself by jumping into a pond. My sister-in-law would rather die than be humiliated. As a result, she jumped into a pond in Yangqiao village and drowned.”It was just that awful that people were killing themselves to get out of this situation, not to face having to go through the traumatizing things they did. The survivors had to remember seeing this happen could really have an impact on their health and how they feel mentally and physically. Another survivor named Wu Zhengxi, witnessed the Japanese troops kill six of his relatives and also raped his auntie. He had to bare witness to others and his family getting taken away and he probably never saw them again after they were taken. He also heard the gunshots but didn’t know where they were coming from.“The wounds in the chest and thighs caused him to a quick death. But the Japanese soldier still didn’t give up.” This event shows how the Japanese soldiers were ruthless when attacking Chinese citizens which resulted in them harming them when they were already dying and not caring about the people that could’ve been traumatized if they saw it. Zhu Shisheng was a man who had six of his thirteen peers killed and he survived by luck. They had just fled to Gezi Mountain that day and the men were ordered to take off their clothes.
