Compare/Contrast Essay

Roald Dahl and Ray Bradbury have unique writing styles, but also have numerous similarities. They both use somewhat of a foreshadowing plot. Both of them are extremely descriptive. They both use humor in conveying their feelings toward the reader. However, they both like to emphasize mysterious aspects in the story to highlight the plot. They also both use analogous phrases throughout the plot to somewhat foreshadow some symbolic events that might occur in the future. This style of writing greatly conduces an optimal reading environment and motivates the reader to continue reading the book. This reading style also motivates the reader to reread sections of the text and process it in their free time to fully understand the motives of the characters due to the fact that both authors sometimes leave information missing for the creativity in your mind to make up.
However, there are also numerous differences that may clearly appear as you continue to read their books. First of all, Ray Bradbury makes the personified characters drastically alter their behavior to convey a feeling of urgency. Roald Dahl wrote “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”. Ray Bradbury wrote many other books. However, one main highlight that stands out is the time periods these stories were written. Ray Bradbury’s stories were written in the 1970s and 1980s while Roald Dahl’s stories were written in the 1950s and 1960s. You can also easily see that Ray Bradbury emphasizes on the future; a results of the book being written in a later time period. In “The Landlady”, the setting takes place probably in the 1960s because of the lack of modernization and technological advancement.
