Ray Bradbury was an American science fiction and fantasy author. On August 22, 1920, Ray Douglas Bradbury was born to Leonard Spaulding Bradbury, a telephone utilities lineman, and Ester Moberg Bradbury, a Swedish immigrant. Bradbury enjoyed a pretty decent childhood in Illinois. As a child, he was fond of magicians, and was a huge fan of several fantasy fiction authors such as Jules Verne. When Bradbury was about 12 years old, he decided to become a writer so that his heroes can live forever through his fiction writing. In 1934, Bradbury’s family moved to Los Angeles. As a teenager, he was part of his school’s drama club, and sometimes befriended Hollywood celebrities. He got paid for one of his contributions of writing a joke to George Burn’s Burns and Allen Show. After graduating from high school in 1938, Bradbury could not afford to go to college. He went to the local library instead. According to Bradbury, the library raised him. He graduated from high school during the Great Depression, so most individuals his age did not go to college. Almost every part of the magazine was written by Bradbury himself, but he used several pseudonyms to hide his true identity.
