Ray Bradbury said, “Life is trying things to see if they work.” With this in mind, I took the advice of the brilliant Ray Bradbury and drank a healthy green juice for twenty consecutive days to see if all the hype about the benefits of drinking a green juice was justified. My initial thoughts were not of failure, I knew I would endure twenty days of drinking the well proclaimed green juice. Be that as it may, I was concerned about my senses and how they would react; would they provide positive or negative data for what my perception of what a green juice should taste, look, and smell like? We went to the juice counter and ordered two Goddesses of Green, the drink even refers to a woman. Why not God of Greens or the Green Man, well now I am deflecting… however, the smells that were coming from the juice bar were disgusting to me. They were not the smells of rotting produce that one would smell coming from the dumpster behind the store, but the smell of fresh produce that has just been annihilated by the heavy duty juicing machines. It just smelled very earthy to me, perhaps I was not used to it, after all, it was my first day of trying the green juice experience. The senses I was wondering about, you know the ones that are either going to provide a positive or negative effect on me, were so far were batting a zero. Then I tasted the drink, sense of taste, still batting a zero. My gosh, the drink tasted like a salad in juice form. I am now thinking to myself, do I really need to step outside my comfort zone, because I am quite comfortable with how things are without introducing this estranged green juice into my body. But just when I thought that there was no way out of the green juice abyss, an employee, a professional juicer, a male juicer, yes a male amongst all the women in Mother’s, must have taken notice to my grotesque reaction to the juice and graciously offered his advice; his name is David, and he suggested that the next time I should try the Aloha Goddess. The offensive smell that once violated my senses no longer had that effect on me; and so the drinking of the green juice made its way into my daily routine. By the same token, I was hoping to experience some of the juices magical perks. To my surprise, the green juice did make me feel more “juiced up”! It also made me more mindful of what I was putting into my body. Furthermore, it just so happened to be that a couple of my friends were experimenting being vegetarians for twenty days; who would have thought that teenage males would have something in common, such as vegetables to talk about.
