Discoveries in the fields of science and history excite almost everyone. But are mistakes a big part in finding archaeological sites or scientific discoveries? Mistakes are the reason we discover new things, or old things. The microwave is a great example of of why mistakes help us find the future of something. Error and discoveries go hand in hand here, as people have learned many things from these goofs. In contrast, these mistakes can also be very destructive and destroy the history around the site, like the lost city of Troy. If not for these mistakes, humans could be living in the stone age. To begin, the microwave was an entire mistake by itself. Percy Spencer hopped around jobbs in his 20s, but in 1914, Percy was hired by Raytheon, a company that had shrunk down the average radio that was now in most American households. Take the 1871 dig for Troy, a lost city. Heinrich Schliemann was digging in Turkish ground when he accidentally destroyed crucial parts of Troy. Schliemann was very careless with his work, and destroyed much of the rich history that could have given many clues. In source 1, paragraph 7, it states, “He had his workers open up huge trenches in the earth, shoveling out layers of debris and artifacts that had lain undisturbed for centuries.” Although they found the city, most of it was destroyed. In contrast, Schliemann never could have found Troy without destroying parts of it. Mistakes are crucial to discovering new parts of the Earth.
