Satyajit Ray Born and brought up in a literary Bengali family , Satyajit Ray had carried the influence from his father Sukumar Ray and his grandfather Upendrakishore Ray Chowdhury. He spent most of his childhood in Kolkata and got lessons of art at Vishwa Bharati University at Santiniketan. He was bestowed with a sense of appreciation for literature and content from an early age as his mother was a great admirer of Rabindra Nath Tagore. He further on went on to direct the trilogy of the ‘Pather Panchali’, ‘Aparajito’ and ‘Apur Sansar’ for which he got both national and international acclamation. His films were said to be lyrical and delicate which kept the audience remain admirers. My Introduction to Satyajit Ray I had watched the movie ‘Pather Panchali’ as a part of a film appreciation study I did for a project. After watching the film, it occurred to me how well Satyajit portrayed the beauty that lay hidden beneath the most unexpected places like rural and poverty struck Bengal. The biggest irony about the movie which I later discovered was the fact that he himself was going through a period of fund deprivation during the production of the film. Besides these technical glitches , I also became fond of the soothing classical background score which was composed by Ravi Shankar.
