The student I chose completed a variety of assessments to her reading and comprehension level. The assessment used is the Graded Sentence, Reading Passage of Silent and Oral Reading and Listening Comprehension, and Fluency. The student is a 3rd grader with an IEP which identify her ability expresses language orally. The teachers believe she is capable of learning independently based on her academic achievement, but through the assessment, it is determined the student still has a comprehension difficulty of understanding text without a clear definition. She stated she was done and when asked questions of the material, the student was able to answer 4 out of 8 questions. This shows the student was able to read and understand a majority of the passage while reading independently, but still struggles to comprehend specific questions to the passage. While reading the passage aloud for the oral reading section, the student was capable of reading to the examiner in an appropriate reading tone. She did not asked for help as she is familiar with the words within the passage. When the examiner asked the student to listen to the passage for the Listening Comprehension section, the student sat quietly without interrupting to be able to understand the passage. Once the examiner was done with the oral reading and listening comprehension section, the student was asked the same question from the silent reading section. The student continue to struggle with answering the same questions as before, therefore, it shows the student does not have enough background on the passage in addition she is unable to identify with the passage.
