The civil war was fought with more than just muskets and rifles. It was fought with multiple weapons, even some we use today. New weapons were made during the civil war and changed how the war was fought. The Weapons of the civil were varied, and were developed by a lot of different people and changed how the war was fought. One type of gun that was used in the civil war was the musket.
The first main cause of the Civil War was economic differences between the Northern and Southern states. During the first few decades of the 19th century, the North had an industrial revolution that brought an economy that relied on laborers. While at the same time, the South continued to rely on slaves for their farming and the production of cotton. The Northerners did not need slaves for their economy, but the Southerners could not make any profit without cotton or slaves. In the 1860’s, the North had twice as many railroads as the South, and the South had a bigger cotton production because of their slave population (Document A).
Civil War Weapons In the Civil War multiple weapons were used. At the beginning, of war the soldiers used the same type of muskets as used in the American Revolution. The muskets had smooth bores and this made the muskets inaccurate from forty yards or more. They took a long time to reload and sometimes would not even fire.
Tailored clothes were also designed with much more aesthetic detail such as pictures being “embroidered by hand” (Source 2. 5) which meant clothes took hours upon hours to finish. These fancy clothes were a symbol of wealth because only the rich could afford to have these clothes custom made for them. Lower or middle class people often had their own family members making clothes for them because they could not afford to have a tailor. Most clothes made by lower to middle class people were only made of “one or two pieces of cloth” (Source 2. 4) in order to conserve cloth for other clothing. As time when on tailoring changed from making fancy designs to making clothes that fit the body well and looked good.
With the advent of Industrial Revolution in the early 1800’s, European markets were inundated with machine-made material with clothing fabric being the most prominent. The inundation was so intense that selling manufactured items was becoming impossible due to market saturation. The British then came up with the idea of choosing India as their new market. But India was already self-sufficient in clothing. As the British introduced machine made clothes in India, prices became a major problem for them as their product were costlier than Indian products due to obvious reasons.
