The OASIS is a helmet with gloves that make it easier to control your avatar.When the creator (James Halliday) dies, he leaves his fortune to the person who finds an “easter egg” hidden inside his game. An “easter egg” is not actually an egg, but rather it is a digital message that is coded into the game so that it is hidden and unknown to anyone but the creator. This hunt means everything to one 18 year old boy named Wade Watts. Wade grew up with little money to spend after his mom and dad both died. Wade lives in an old truck and goes to school in the OASIS public school system (which is a virtual school that happens completely online) that James Halliday created. James Halliday hid the egg so Wade could only get to it after he clears 3 gates and collected 3 keys. After Wade finds the 1st key, his best friend and internet crush finds it too because there are multiple copies of the keys (but only one egg). The IOI is an internet company which also wants to locate the “egg”. The IOI is a company that is trying find the egg so that it can own the OASIS and charge access which would mean that most people in this society would not longer be able to access it.
