In the novel, Ready Player One, a teenage boy named Wade Watts hunts for an Easter egg, which is a hidden key that is programmed into the game by creator. In the novel, it is centered around the online game OASIS, created by James Halliday. OASIS is a massive multiplayer online game that turned into a global network virtual reality. Halliday’s death was a huge phenomenon because of what he left behind for his players. Before he died, he made a video that would be viewed after his death stating that if one finds his Easter egg in his game, they will receive his fortune. In the video, he says a verse that gives a clue. There are three keys that will open different gates and once the first person passes the last gate, they will gain his fortune. Although as the years past, no one was able to find the first key to the first gate.
After five years of “gunters,” someone who hunts for an Easter egg, many had given up and believed that it was an urban legend. Wade is one of many who attempts Halliday’s challenge. He was the first to find the key to the first gate. Because the legend was found to be true, many began to look for the Easter egg once again. Later on, after many struggles and complications that occurred, Wade was able to find the egg and gain Halliday’s fortune.
