Blame is a coping skill that gives the responsibility to someone else to make yourself look better. Some people use blame as a coping skill because they cannot own up to what they had done, others use blame for damage control so other people will not think less of them, and the rest use it to get out of trouble. Throughout the story of Romeo and Juliet, blame is passed around from one character to the next creating conflicts and making the storyline unclear. The factors to blame for Romeo and Juliet’s deaths are the feud between the two families, Capulets and Montagues, and Romeo and Juliet themselves.
The Feud between the Capulets and the Montagues are one of the factors to blame for the death of Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and Juliet cannot see each other because of the rivalry of the families so they get married without telling their parents. Then when Juliet will not marry Paris, making her father upset with her, she fakes her own death so she can be with Romeo. Romeo, thinking Juliet’s death is real, kills himself to be with her and after Juliet wakes up and sees Romeo dead, she kills herself. They declare their love for each other and decide to get married mere hours after they meet at the Capulet party. Without consult from an authority figure, they get married with the help of Friar Lawrence. There marriage caused a ripple effect throughout the families, Lord Capulet was angry with Juliet because she wouldn’t marry Paris. Mercutio and Tybalt both had conflicts with Romeo because of his marriage with Juliet, which led to all three of their deaths.
