Immunization of Children Vaccinations or immunizations have two purposes, to prevent and to keep diseases from spreading. There are many different diseases for which vaccines are commonly supplied for such as polio, rubella, diphtheria, measles and many more. There is a wide variety of different views in today’s world about vaccinations and whether or not they are necessary. First, this paper will explore the history of vaccines, second, the ingredients of vaccines and how they work, third, the rationale of why to vaccinate children and fourth, counter arguments to vaccines. There are many valid reasons as to why these people choose to vaccinate their children. If a parent chooses to enter their child into a public school system, certain vaccinations are required in an attempt to prevent the spread of dangerous diseases. (Vaccination - Plotkin and Fantini) Although they are required, there can be some exceptions. Vaccinations help protect future generations. If children are continually vaccinated, eventually that could lead to the complete eradication of the disease. By continuing to vaccinate now, eventually the upcoming generations could be at no risk of contracting the dangerous diseases. While there may be some speculation surrounding certain vaccinations, the vast majority of vaccination have been proven safe and effective. We are fortunate that in that the United States has the safest and the most effective vaccinations; all extensively tested. Whenever needed, the vaccinations are updated to make sure that they are still as safe as possible. Currently vaccinations are the most effective and financially safe public health measure. Vaccinations are financially safe for multiple reasons, one being that a child who is vaccinated is much less likely to be sick resulting in fewer doctor visits and lower health care costs. There are a variety of different reasons why people chose to vaccinate their children, but there are also reasons why people choose not to vaccinate. A major reason that families will choose not to vaccinate their children is based on religious reasons. The U.S. constitution states that the congress won 't make a law that goes against someone 's religion. It specifically states: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” (Should Vaccinations be Required for Children?)
