The novel, Rebecca, is about a young woman uprooting her new husband’s past. The author made its events happen in the early to middle 1900s. It has been questionable as to if this book could also take place in the present. It would not be able to take place now because societal standards and feelings towards spouses are quite different. The plot of Rebecca would not make sense if the setting was America in the 21st century. To start with, it is important to mention that marriage, women, economic status are viewed very differently now as opposed to the early to mid-1900s. The main character marries a man within a couple weeks of knowing him! That isn’t considered normal in the 21st century. Also, it isn’t every day that someone gets away with
