Rebels A rebel is the act of an individual refusing to listen or follow authority. Rebels are characters who fight for their own ideals. They will do anything almost being malevolent to destroy the limits set up against them. There are three characters that established themselves as “rebels”, from the short story unit. Captain Torres from “Just Lather and Nothing Else” , The group of children from “Green Gulch”, and Nick from ‘Let It Ride” are characters that refused to follow vital human morals In the Latin American culture, especially during a period of violence boys were raised to be “machisomo”which means tough in Latin American. Many of these men, including the character, Captain Torres in “Just Lather And Nothing Else” demonstrated rebellious behaviour because of it. Captain Torres established himself as a social rebel though multiple events. He knew that the barber is a member of the rebel group and has been warned that the barber will kill him if he goes in there. They need to claim themselves as mature humans with thoughts and ideas of their own. This is a normal part of development and can appear in rebellious behavior against society. This can occur on either a large or small scale. In the short story “Green Gulch” by Loren Eiseley , the group of children displayed rebellious demeanour on a very large scale.
