Three symbols stand out and create an allegory. The Scarecrow, The Lion, and the Tin Woodman represents three symbols that intertwine together to represent the political era during the 19th century. The first symbol in the The Wizard of Oz represents the Scarecrow. The Scarecrow hung on a post in a great big cornfield.
In the novel “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” the colors are used to bring meaning to the various aspects of the story. Initially when Dorothy is in Kansas at her Aunt and Uncles farm everything is presented in muted colors, like gray and dreary. This coloring also serves as a symbol for the life that Dorothy lived in Kansas. It was a boring life, simple and there wasn’t much to smile about.
Faith, Young Goodman Brown’s wife name is a symbol of her personality. “Faith, as the wife was aptly named,” (Brown 619) is emblematic to her nature. A symbol that is used more than once would be the pink ribbon. “…thrust her own pretty head into the street, letting the wind play with the pink ribbons of her cap,” (Brown 620). Faith has a connection to the pink ribbon because the ribbon is a symbol of purity and innocence, which she was.
Throughout the novel The Wizard of Oz, there are many plays of color that relate, and correspond to the personality and character of the setting as well as the characters them selves. Each color adds a great amount of personality and imagery throughout the In the novel the color green is used to describe the wicked witch of the west. The wicked witch of the west is described as being very envious of what her sisters have, for example the shoes that she saw Dorothy wearing that belonged to her passed away sister. The color green on her symbolizes the envy and jealousy she holds within her.
The color scheme that I ended up going with is the wizard of oz, no the color scheme for this has a lot of bright and basic colors you might see on a daily basis. One of the big reasons why you would use these colors are because they are bright, which attracts peoples attention more and brings them in. The color that we see in the play for wizard of oz is red which is the color of Dorothy's ruby slippers, with the red color having the meaning of strength, power and determination. The big part of the story was of the characters walking along side Dorothy moving forward with determination in mind, trying to accomplish their goals together. Now having a variety of colors like yellow, red, green, blue and orange does fit the wizard of oz color
This is probably one of the most famous sequences in The Wizard of Oz (1939). In minute nineteen of the film, it is the moment in which the Technicolor world is revealed, merging the black and white (or sepia) world with the coloured one. Thus, depicting the change from black and white to colour film (both metaphorically and literally) there is no wonder that this film will attempt at a wide exploration of colours. In this essay I will explore the usage of colours in The Wizard of Oz, attempting to show how colours are used for different purposes and how their meanings can be changed.
Frank Baum uses colors throughout the novel the Wonderful Wizard Of Oz. . Color play s a important role in the story l. Each color symbolizes a n object of wealth or emotion . Everything about the characters in The Handmaid’s Tale from their names to their clothes is used to symbolize their roles in the book and the handmaids aperal is no exception. The handmaids all wear the same clothes, a red, ankle length skirt, red gloves and a white bonnet. The red of the handmaids’ clothes is described by Offred as “the color of blood, which defines us” (Atwood 8). The color of blood defines the handmaids because menstrual bleeding symbolizes fertility, which is what the handmaids are used for, they are nothing more than babymakers. Their fertile bodies are not the only aspects of the handmaids that the clothing symbolizes.
The Wizard of Oz has revealed to be an exceptionally well thought out film when analysed. The film has made use of stylistic elements such as colour, light, sound and mise-en-scene which coincide with the various twists and turns of the plot as Dorothy moves from Kansas, to Oz, and back again. In The Wizard of Oz, the directors have employed the use of different unique editing techniques despite being an early film. It is obvious that the audience is able to notice the absence of colour in the beginning and ending of the film. The audience is able to identify the mood and overall feeling for Dorothy when she is in her family farm in Kansas.
The second color that came to my attention was purple. I noticed throughout the movie rapunzel was wearing a purple dress. Purple is represented through royalty. Rapunzel, before taken by the witch, lived in a castle with the queen and king. Now, the colors red and black.
