Redemption & Betrayal in The Kite Runner
The protagonist in The Kite Runner, Amir talks about an event that happened in his past life and says that that made him to who he is now. Story begin with Amir and Hassan being close friend but as the story goes on, Amir begin to guilt to the accident that happen to Hassan. Story jump to March 1981, where Baba and Amir escape Kabul to go to live in Fremont, California. Later on, Amir get a call from Rahim Khan to see him in Pakistan, which lead him to searching for Hassan's son, Sohrab. Amir in guilt searches for redemption for what he witness and caused; using information given to write about the theme of The Kite Runner. Further as the story progress, Amir falls in love with General Taheri’s daughter, Soraya but not long after, Baba is diagnosed with lung cancer. Amir asks Baba for General Taheri’s consent for Amir to marry Soraya. General Taheri accepts the proposal and they hold the wedding as quick as possible because of Baba health. Baba dies a month later, leaving all the problem to Amir who would redeem the cause Baba and him created. Amir received a call from Rahim Khan, Baba best friend and business partner, telling Amir to see him in Pakistan. This “challenges he meets, the mistakes he makes and his final attempt at redemption”(Two Perspectives on Afghanistan” tells the reader about the suffer Amir is reminded and the “horror under the Taliban of the country of his youth”. (Two Perspectives on Afghanistan). “This sets off a series of fictional events that force Amir to face up to the physical cowardice” (Afghanistan’s Next Chapter). After arriving a week later, Rahim tells Amir about the destruction in Kabul. “The Kite Runner describes the rich culture and beauty of a land in the process of being destroyed .” (In the wake of pure
