The story of Bradley Chalkers is a satisfying mixture of success and joy. Throughout the book, Chalkers takes us on a complicated journey of accepting not only others but learning to accept himself. Chalkers struggles with issues of self-esteem and communication, things that most people struggle with on a day to day basis. Chalkers journey to acceptance and in way redemption was written as an example of change. The author wrote this story to not only provide feelings of isolation and esteem as something that is normalized but also to teach that one does not have to remain the person that they were yesterday. The dedication that is displayed by Cara within the book is the same dedication and care any providers should have for those they provide services to. Being not only willing to keep up a client who has shown resistance to receiving help is the kind of endurance that service providers need. While one can not force someone to seek to work with a client who is resistant is an important part of helping build the esteem of the clients. Those who have low self-esteem may feel that there is nothing that could help or that they are not likable, similar to how Bradley felt. Although the service provider in this story had done well in her dealing with Bradley, She made some major missteps when it came dealing with Bradley’s friend. When acting as a human service provider, it’s important to understand boundaries. Knowing when and what level of intervention is needed. It can be hard to keep yourself from stepping into a situation that you may see a potential solution. The decision to step outside of one's service position to impose help may not be the best situation for the person involved. Being a service provider means that at times the service you want to provide, won't be accepted by
